Ep. 8 – Common Running Injuries – The Running Institute – Physical Therapy at St. Luke's

injuries No Comments »

Most runners will have minor aches and pains from time to time. But more serious issues can cause persistent pain and swelling and stop you in your tracks.

Hi, I’m Howie Knudson of Physical Therapy at St. Luke’s. For runners, the knees, hips and feet are the most prone to injury. Common diagnoses include Patellar tendonitis, Achilles’ tendonitis, Hamstring strain, Stress Fractures, Plantar Fasciitis, Shin Splints, ITB syndrome and Ankle Sprain. Many injuries occur due to compensation resulting in altered stress to an area of the lower body causing pain.

Other injuries are the result of overuse and need to be managed with modification of activity. Injuries can prevent optimal performance and prevent you from achieving your fitness goals.

Let Physical Therapy at St. Luke’s customize a treatment plan to help with your recovery. Our specialized clinicians can evaluate your running form, as well as diagnose problems with strength and flexibility that cause compensation when you run. Don’t let injuries slow you down. Call Physical Therapy at St. Luke’s and let us help you get back on the road.
